Surah Muzammil Wazifa & Benefits: What Is Authentic?
Many people in Pakistan read Surah Muzammil as a wazifa for rizq, for a job, to pay off qarz or for other needs. This page explains, with references, what is authentic, what is not, and a routine you can follow with confidence.
Is there an authentic Surah Muzammil wazifa?
No sahih hadith gives a special wazifa for Surah Muzammil: no fixed number of readings, no fixed time, and no promise of wealth or of a specific worldly result. Readings such as “41 times after Isha” are later customs. Many sincere people practise them as general dhikr and dua; they should not be attributed to the Prophet (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) or treated as guaranteed.
The famous narration about Surah Muzammil
A narration often quoted on websites and in wazifa books says: “Whoever reads Surah Al-Muzzammil, Allah will protect him from hardship in this world and the Hereafter.” It belongs to a long report, attributed to Ubayy ibn Ka‘b, that lists a virtue for every surah of the Quran.
This does not reduce the value of the surah; it is the word of Allah. It only means we should seek its blessings in the way the Quran and Sunnah teach.
What is authentic: the real benefits of Surah Muzammil
- Night prayer: the surah is the Quran’s call to tahajjud (73:1–6). “The best prayer after the obligatory prayers is the prayer at night” (Sahih Muslim 1163).
- Tawakkul: “Lord of the east and the west; there is no god but Him, so take Him as your Guardian” (73:9).
- Sabr: “Be patient over what they say” (73:10).
- Ease from Allah: ayah 20 mentions the sick and those travelling to earn a living, and lightens the command for them.
- Istighfar: the surah ends, “seek forgiveness of Allah; Allah is Forgiving, Merciful” (73:20).
- Reward for recitation: ten rewards for every letter read (Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi 2910).
An authentic routine for hard times (rizq, qarz, pareshani)
- Guard the five daily prayers: everything else is built on them.
- Pray tahajjud, even two rakats, and recite Surah Muzammil in it once you have learnt it.
- Read Surah Muzammil with its Urdu meaning and reflect on ayat 9, 10 and 20.
- Make istighfar often. Nuh (peace be upon him) told his people that seeking forgiveness brings rain and wealth (Quran 71:10–12).
- Make dua in your own words, especially in the last third of the night and in sujood.
- Do your part: ayah 20 praises those who travel to seek Allah’s bounty. Effort and tawakkul go together.
- Seek help from family, a trusted scholar, or a doctor or counsellor if worry is affecting your health or sleep. Seeking help is not a lack of faith.
Common questions
Is reading Surah Muzammil 41 times a Sunnah?
No. No authentic hadith mentions reading Surah Muzammil 41 times, 11 times or any fixed number. These counts come from later practice, not from the Prophet (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم).
Is it wrong to read Surah Muzammil many times for a need?
Reading the Quran is always rewarded, and asking Allah for your needs is worship. What scholars warn against is believing a specific count guarantees a worldly result, or attributing it to the Prophet (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) without proof.
What does the Quran say to someone in financial hardship?
Surah Muzammil itself says: take Allah as your Guardian (73:9), be patient (73:10), and know that Allah is aware of those who travel to earn His bounty (73:20). Elsewhere: “Indeed, with hardship comes ease” (94:6).
